I don't know if I agree with all your selections...the Arctic Monkey and the Arcade Fire in my opinion don't measure up over repeat listenings, nor do they compare favorably with "breakthrough" efforts from earlier decades...

Not one of those are on my top of the year list, Bud, but that's probably because I am so buried in the indies, I don't have time to listen to "the distributed." I've always admired your taste, though (it paralleling mine to a large degree), and am going to scope out a few just to see what I'm missing. No Research Turtles, though. Hmmmm... If you want to hear them, let me know. In my top 5.

No mention of the album that "[took] on the reigning champ U2, and [didn't] so much dismantle Atomic Bomb as blast right through it, like a mile-wide meteor, hurtling across the heavens toward The Beatles themselves"?

Never heard Research Turtles, Frank, but I'll look for them online.

As for Coldplay, Dave, I still think X&Y is the band's most sonically complex, and I prefer it to Viva La Vida, but A Rush of Blood to the Head is the one with the strongest material, so I had to go with it. I did pick "Speed of Sound" and "Talk" for my decade playlist, as you'll see.
